COVID-19 came unexpected & surprised every aspect of our lives – personal, business, community. The Coca-Cola System in Bulgaria, as an international market leader with strong social responsibility, wants to give a hand to those in need & support the global movement “Build back better”.
In the first phase of support, the main focus of the initiatives was supporting the first-line healthcare workers and the vulnerable part of society. The Coca-Cola system donated more than 170 000 liters of soft drinks and water to the first line healthcare workers in 27 hospitals in the country and supported 330 elderly people through Social patronage in Kostinbrod and Bankya, for the period of 3 months.
The dedicated efforts to support the healthcare workers in these extraordinary times continued for more than 6 months and covered hospitals in Sofia, Dobrich, Pernik, Shumen, Varna, Plovdiv, Burgas, Ruse, Stara Zagora, Sliven, Yambol, Pazardzhik, Kyustendil, Vidin, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Lovech, Lom, Pleven, Svishtov, Sevlievo.
Additionally, more than 300 pre-paid advertising spots in the country were donated to the Bulgarian Red Cross for the “Together against COVID-19 donation” campaign.
The Coca-Cola Foundation supported the United Against COVID-19 campaign in support of vulnerable groups affected by the crisis - doctors and medical staff, people with disabilities, the elderly, children and young people, minorities, the homeless, the unemployed, single parents, and others. The initiative is of the Bulgarian Donors' Forum, America for Bulgaria Foundation, the US Embassy in Bulgaria, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria and has so far raised over BGN 815,000 to fight the effects of the epidemic on the most vulnerable groups in the country.
The support initiatives from the second phase started with a focus on the small business and the HoReCa sector. The beginning was set with the “The neighborhood shop” program, which supports small stores in Bulgaria with 100 000 BGN. Initially, it covered over 500 selected stores in the country, which were supported to develop and improve their business. Later throughout the year, 1000 more small stores are included as participants too.
The contribution in Bulgaria is nearly BGN 1,100,000 in support of efforts to address the effects of COVID-19 in the most affected communities, as well as a series of activities supporting the recovery of small businesses and the HoReCa industry in the country.
